The welt (a firm strip of leather) is stitched to the upper and the lining with the Goodyear stitching machine, this is known as Goodyear welting. Goodyear welting can be of 360º or 270º depending on the chosen manufacturing process.
The gap in the sole is then filled with a natural compound of cork and ground sole leather that is 1-centimetre thick. Given the malleable properties of this mixture, the cork filling will settle into each client’s sole shape for maximum comfort. The soles are then glued in preparation for the next step.
